Electric Splendor

30" x 48" Oil on Canvas. 2016 I had a vision of an electric field around a bouquet of flowers I was painting. Needless to say, a very whimsical piece.

Walk With Me

18" x 30" Oil on Canvas. 2016

Landfall

7 ft x 5 ft (WxH) Oil on Canvas My father was a sea captain and I wanted to romanticize the thought of a ship coming into port after a long journey. I used lots of light glazings of various colors as overcoats. This painting serves as the cover to my father's novel, Landfall by Joe Jablonski. 2014

Lilyhammer

8 ft x 5 ft (WxH), Oil on Canvas I like the idea of perspective and in this case, we have a lone figure looking out on a vast snowy expanse where ski trails blend in with tree branches. Who knows what he is thinking.. 2013

Cyril Bay

7 ft x 5 ft (WxH), Oil on Canvas I was once again playing with perspective here and we have a man in the foreground looking out over a bay. Very whimsical, I was also playing with colors and various painting techniques. In this painting, I referenced a picture I saw of the artist Peter Doig looking out over Cyril Bay in Trinidad. 2012

I Love Mumbai

6 ft x 4 ft (WxH), Oil on Canvas I wanted to do something to highlight the disparity between the haves and have nots. Where better to set that than in Mumbai? 2013

Nebraska

2 x 2 ft x 4 ft diptych oil on canvas. I'm from Nebraska and was trying to capture some of the state's rural spirit here. 2016

Sedona I

3 ft x 4 ft. Oil on canvas.

Dream

5 ft x 7 ft (WxH), Oil on Canvas This was inspired after my father's sudden death. This painting depicts a person having a dream, while sleeping in their bedroom which if filled with family photos.

Two Towers

6 ft x 5 ft (WxH), Oil on Canvas I grew up loving drafting class and wanted to be an architect at one point. Here I wanted to create as much perspective as I could by using dozens of vanishing points. I painted the buildings black/white/grey so that I could then contrast a colorful grid sky with sort of the bleak/grey thought of living in this sort of housing environment.

Sunrise in Victoria

40" x 30" (WxH), Oil on Canvas My son and I took a cruise to Victoria in 2014 and when we backed in alongside the dock in the early morning, I saw this sight.

Say Your Prayers

6 ft x 4 ft (WxH), Oil on Canvas Depictions of humans and animals in Islamic culture are discouraged, therefore Islamic art is normally dominated by geometric patterns. Here we have a lady looking at an elaborately patterned set of windows. I was also playing around with different angles of the sunlight streaming into the bedroom. 2012

Depot

40" x 30" (WxH), Oil on Canvas I took a field trip with my son's class to the Mill Valley Depot one day and painted this. I was experimenting with using silver underneath blue to get an ethereal quality to the sky. This is a technique that the esteemed painter Chris Ofili uses.

Butch And Sundance

9 ft x 6 ft (WxH), Oil on Canvas This is just a whimsical (and large!) painting that is actually two panels. This depicts Robert Redford and Paul Newman playing ping pong on the set of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Alone (study)

9" x 11.5" (WxH), ink and graphite on paper My mom was doing her homework for an art class she was taking so I did this in her studio while she did her homework project.

Sedona II
